Nags Head for solo guitar

the ocean waves and the laughter of friends

Nags Head is a small township in North Carolina. It is located on the Outer Banks, south of Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk. The Outer Banks are a 200-mile long string of barrier islands that run along most of North Carolina's coastline. The area is a popular beach vacation destination.

Myself, my lifelong friends, and all of our significant others have done two vacations in Nags Head where we all rented a big house on the beach for a week. We played games, lounged on the beach, and ate and drank to our hearts' content. We had so much fun the first time that we had to do it twice.

I worked out the initial ideas for this piece on our first trip to the Outer Banks. I took it home, worked on it for a couple years, and put the finishing touches on it during our second trip. It features colorful harmonies, uneven meters, and develops its initial ideas through distant key centers and varied textures.

This piece is very special to me. It is dedicated to all of my friends and the memories we've made.
